The Tennessee Walking Horse is known for their smooth ride, gentle disposition and of course their great stamina.  Whether its on the trail, in a show, or in any discipline they are the perfect mount of choice for all ages.

The natural, inherited gaits of a Tennessee Walking Horse consists of the flat walk, running walk, and
canter.  The flat walk is a smooth and easy four-beat diagonal gait which can reach speeds from 4 to 8
miles an hour.  During a properly executed flat walk, three feet remain on the ground at all times. Unlike the trot, at no time are all four legs suspended off the ground. The running walk is a faster version of the flat walk
and can reach speeds up to 10 to 15 miles an hour.  A Tennessee Walking Horse will nod its head in
rhythm with the cadence of its feet.  This nodding head motion, with the over stride, are two features
that are unique to the Tennessee Walking Horse. The canter is best know as a "rocking chair canter" because when done properly it is a slow rocking to & fro motion with relaxation for the horse & comfort
to the rider.

The Tennessee Walking Horse background consists of the breeding of the Thoroughbred, Saddlebred, American Saddlebred, Morgan, Narragansett Pacer and Canadian Pacer. The first breeders’ association was formed in 1935 in Lewisburg, Tennessee.  The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders' Association of America whose main purpose was to collect, record and preserve the pedigrees of the Tennessee Walking Horse. In 1939, the first Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration took place in Shelbyville,Tennessee and it remains today the breed’s largest showcase and its world championship show.
